Introduction to the Wilderness Medicine Fellowship

The Wilderness Medicine Fellowship at the University of Nevada, Reno School of Medicine (UNR Med) offers a unique opportunity to gain expertise in wilderness medicine. This fellowship provides clinical time divided between Reno, Nevada, and Great Basin National Park, allowing fellows to obtain an expansive understanding of caring for individuals in harsh environments.

Why Choose UNR Med?

This one-year fellowship provides a comprehensive wilderness medicine immersion experience, working with a highly-acclaimed team of medical professionals to gain advanced skills for wilderness, travel, and event medicine. Located between the high desert and High Sierra, UNR Med is a prime location for becoming a leading physician in wilderness medicine.

Clinical Experience

Clinical time will be divided between Reno, Nevada, and Great Basin National Park. Fellows will learn family medicine and wilderness medicine skills to offer safe and high-quality care to patients in severe conditions. These advanced skills can be applied to the fields of wilderness medicine, travel medicine, and event medicine.

Salary Schedule

UNR Med offers competitive salary and benefits packages, with no state income tax in Nevada, allowing residents to receive a higher net salary compared to resident programs in other states.

Resources

UNR Med is committed to supporting residents with the resources needed to ensure a successful and rewarding experience during their training.

Handbook

The Resident Handbook outlines the policies and procedures of the residency program, which residents are expected to comply with to ensure a fair, supportive, and equitable environment.
