Program Overview
Programme: PGDip Vocational Rehabilitation
The Postgraduate Diploma in Vocational Rehabilitation is a full-time programme presented by the Faculty of Health Sciences, Department of Occupational Therapy.
Programme Information
Commencement of studies must be discussed with the head of department, as the programme is presented every second year. Also, consult General Academic Regulations G16-G29.
Admission Requirements
General Admission Regulations:
- All applications must be accompanied by the following documents:
- Certified full academic transcripts from undergraduate to current level
- Certified copy of ID or passport
- A research concept note (not applicable to honours or coursework master's degrees)
- All applicants with international qualifications must submit the following documents:
- A SAQA evaluation of the completed qualification or a comprehensive Foreign Qualification Report
- TOEFL or IELTS or Pearson Test of English or Oxford Test of English test results (if applicable)
- Certified copy of passport
- All postgraduate applications are subject to departmental admissions processes
- Admissions is based on the content of and performance in the prior degree, bridging arrangements (where required), academic merit, and prior work experience (if applicable)
- Admission to all qualifications is subject to supervisory capacity and/or research projects in the field of specialisation in a department
- Complying with the minimum admissions requirements does not automatically guarantee admission to the degree
- Proposed research studies for masters and doctoral applicants should align with the research focus of the relevant department
- All postgraduate applicants must be proficient in English as English is the official language of tuition, communication, and correspondence at the University of Pretoria
- All applicants must be computer literate
- All students need to have access to an internet-enabled device, as well as consistent email and internet access
- Allowance will be made for the diversity profile of students in accordance with the University strategy
Minimum Admissions Requirements:
- Relevant Bachelor of Occupational Therapy (BOT) (or equivalent) degree
- Registration as an occupational therapist with the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA)
- Employment in a part-time/full-time position appropriate for the field of study
Examinations and Pass Requirements
- A year mark of at least 40% is required for admission to the standard examination in all postgraduate modules
- Each paper written for the standard examination must be passed individually with 50%
- There is one examination period for the standard examination in October/November and the supplementary examination in November/December of the same year
- If a student fails the supplementary examination, the module must be repeated
- A supplementary examination in a module is granted to a student if a student obtains a final mark of between 40%-49% in any module at the examination
- Students intending to sit for the supplementary examination due to the reasons mentioned above must register for the supplementary examination opportunity 24 hours after the results have been made public
- If a student fails a module in the standard examination, the examination mark obtained in the relevant module at the supplementary examination will be calculated as the final mark
- A student who is prevented from writing the standard examination due to illness or other qualifying circumstances may be granted permission by the dean to write a special examination in the particular module(s)
Pass with Distinction
The diploma is awarded with distinction to a student who has obtained an average of at least 75% (not rounded) in all the modules.

- FIA 703: Financial administration 703 (Credits: 30.00)
- Module content: Financial statements; budget; decision-making; behaviour of costs; cost-volume relation; allocation of costs; manufacturing costs, process of costs; activity costs; overhead costs; business planning
- GRA 702: Groups in occupational therapy 702 (Credits: 30.00)
- Module content: Emphasis will be placed on role-playing and groups in learning employment acquisition behaviour
- WSD 702: Work study 702 (Credits: 30.00)
- Module content: Advanced study of method study and work-measurement, including mastership of MODAPTS
