Program Overview


Programme: Bachelor of Consumer Science specialising in Clothing Retail Management [BConSci]

The Bachelor of Consumer Science specialising in Clothing Retail Management is a four-year programme that focuses on the development of practical and occupational skills in the clothing retail industry. The programme is designed to equip students with the knowledge and skills required to succeed in the competitive world of clothing retail management.


Admission Requirements

To be eligible for admission to the programme, applicants must meet the following requirements:


  • Achievement level: NSC/IEB with a minimum of 5 for English Home Language or English First Additional Language and 4 for Mathematics.
  • APS: 28
  • Life Orientation is excluded when calculating the APS.
  • Applicants currently in Grade 12 must apply with their final Grade 11 results.
  • Applicants who have completed Grade 12 must apply with their final NSC or equivalent qualification results.

Programme Structure

The programme consists of four years of study, with a minimum of 510 credits required for completion. The programme includes a range of core and fundamental modules, as well as experiential training in the industry.

Experiential Training

Students are required to complete a total of 480 hours of experiential training in the industry over the four years of study. This training is designed to provide students with practical experience and skills in the clothing retail industry.


Promotion to Next Study Year

To be promoted to the next study year, students must meet the following requirements:


  • A student registers for the second year when at least 80% of the first-year module credits have been passed.
  • A student registers for the third year when at least 85% of the module credits of the previous years have been passed.
  • A student registers for the fourth year when at least 95% of the module credits of the previous years have been passed.

Additional Information

Students who do not qualify for STK 110 must register for STK 113 and STK 123. The programme also includes a range of elective modules, which students can choose from to tailor their studies to their interests and career goals.
