Introduction to the BCom Specialising in Human Resource Management

The Bachelor of Commerce specialising in Human Resource Management degree introduces students to the key disciplines of Industrial and Organisational Psychology, Human Resource Management, and Labour Relations Management. This programme is designed to provide students with a comprehensive understanding of human resource management principles and practices, as well as a broader knowledge of business through the study of Bachelor of Commerce modules.

The Bachelor of Commerce specialising in Human Resource Management degree covers the following key areas:


  • Industrial and Organisational Psychology: Using knowledge of the psychology of human behaviour to ensure that people work effectively in the workplace.
  • Human Resource Management: Managing people using workplace policies and procedures to ensure that they are effective and productive.
  • Labour Relations Management: Implementing Labour Relations programmes and acting as mediators through advising and counselling in the workplace.

Admission Requirements

The admission requirements for the Bachelor of Commerce specialising in Human Resource Management degree are as follows:


  • Achievement level:
    • English Home Language or English First Additional Language: 5
    • Mathematics: 4
    • APS: 30
  • Life Orientation is excluded when calculating the APS.
  • Applicants currently in Grade 12 must apply with their final Grade 11 (or equivalent) results.
  • Applicants who have completed Grade 12 must apply with their final NSC or equivalent qualification results.
  • Meeting the minimum academic requirements does not guarantee admission.
