Programme Overview
The Master of Architecture (MArch) programme is a one-year full-time degree that consists of a dissertation and examination. The programme is designed to provide students with advanced knowledge and skills in the field of architecture.
Programme Information
The MArch programme is offered by the Faculty of Engineering, Built Environment and Information Technology, Department of Architecture. The programme consists of 180 credits and is offered at NQF level 9.
Admission Requirements
To be eligible for the MArch programme, students must meet the following requirements:
- A BScHons degree in Architecture, Landscape Architecture, Interior Architecture, or an associated field such as urban design, civil engineering, planning, construction, geography, visual arts, or ecology, with a weighted average of at least 60% at final-year level.
- Alternatively, students may be considered with an equivalent bachelor's degree and completed supplementary modules relevant to the study field at honours-level to the equivalent of 180 credits, with a weighted average of at least 60% at final-year level.
- A comprehensive intellectual CV is also required.
Examinations and Pass Requirements
After a minimum of one year of registration, students must submit a dissertation for examination and undergo an oral examination in the related field of study. The Master of Architecture degree is conferred on students obtaining a minimum of 50% for both the dissertation and oral examination.
Research Information
General Regulation G.39.12 applies to the MArch programme.
Pass with Distinction
The Master of Architecture degree is conferred with distinction on students obtaining a minimum of 75% for both the dissertation and the oral examination.

Students are expected to familiarize themselves with these regulations, as well as the information contained in the General Rules section. Ignorance concerning these regulations and rules will not be accepted as an excuse for any transgression.
