Curriculum and Pedagogy in the Early Years
Module Details
The module CEY 200 deals with curriculum, pedagogy, and learning environments for early childhood care and development. It is linked to the Education (OPV) 222, 312, and 322 modules and explores theories, philosophies, and practices of early childhood curricula, pedagogy, and learning environments.
Module Content
The module content includes:
- The play-based curriculum
- Different teaching and learning methods
- Learning settings, resources, and materials
- Planning of group times and children's activities
- Planning and organisation of routines, daily schedules, transitions, and movements
- The South African National Curriculum Framework and the six Early Learning and Development Areas
- Transformative pedagogy relevant to diverse African contexts
- Making of age-appropriate tools and toys from locally available materials
- Adapting material and activities to accommodate children with disabilities
