Program Overview
Programme: BEng (Mining Engineering)
The BEng (Mining Engineering) programme is designed to provide students with a comprehensive education in mining engineering, covering topics such as mining technology, rock mechanics, and mine ventilation. Admission Requirements
- Applicants must have a National Senior Certificate (NSC) or equivalent qualification with exemption to bachelor's or diploma studies.
- Applicants must meet the minimum faculty-specific subject requirements at NSC or tertiary level.
- The minimum APS required for admission is 35 for the BEng programme and 30 for the ENGAGE programme.
- The following subjects are required: English Home Language or English First Additional Language, Mathematics, and Physical Sciences.

Promotion to Next Study Year
- A student is promoted to the next study year if they comply with all the requirements of the current year of study.
- A student who does not comply with all the requirements may be permitted to register for outstanding modules in addition to the modules of the next year of study, subject to the approval of the Dean.
Pass with Distinction
- A student graduates with distinction if they obtain a weighted average of at least 75% in all the modules of the final year of study, and complete the programme within the prescribed four years.
Minimum Credits
- The minimum credits required for each year of study are:
- First year: 153 credits
- Second year: 151 credits
- Third year: 153 credits
- Fourth year: 138 credits
General Academic Regulations
- The General Academic Regulations (G Regulations) and General Student Rules apply to all faculties and registered students of the University.
- Students are responsible for familiarizing themselves with the regulations and rules applicable to their registration.
