Programme: PGDip (Dentistry) (Orthodontics)
Programme Information
The PGDip (Dentistry) (Orthodontics) programme is offered by the Faculty of Health Sciences, Department of School of Dentistry. The programme has a minimum duration of study of 1 year and consists of 120 credits at NQF level 8.
Admission Requirements
To be eligible for the programme, applicants must meet the following requirements:
- Relevant BChD (or equivalent) degree
- HPCSA registration where treatment of patients is involved

Contact Time
The contact time in the major field of study is determined by the relevant head of department and approved by the Dean. It includes systematic tuition as well as clinical/practical assignments.
Examinations and Pass Requirements
The examination in the basic subject and the main field of study may take place every semester. Examinations in both the basic subject as well as the main field of study may be written in the same semester. In order to be admitted to the examination in the main field of study, the student must have passed the basic subject. A final mark of at least 50% is required to pass.
Subject to exceptions approved by the Dean, on the recommendation of the relevant head of department, a student may not enter for the postgraduate diploma's examination in the same subject more than twice.
Pass with Distinction
The diploma is awarded with distinction to students who obtain at least 75% in both the main field of study and the basic subject.

- Module content: This module focuses on the principles of professional and ethical practices in healthcare, including the rules of conduct formulated by the Health Professionals Council of South Africa (HPCSA).
