Programme-Specific Information
- To qualify for the degree, a candidate must hold a full-time training position/registrarship for a minimum of four to eight years, depending on the specific requirements for the field of study.
- For Maxillofacial and Oral Surgery, the duration of the registrarship varies from four to seven years, depending on the candidate's qualifications.
Examinations and Pass Requirements
- Examinations in Basic Subjects: A student must pass all basic subjects (Anatomy, Physiology, and Pharmacology) with a minimum pass mark of 50% before being admitted to the first year of study.
- Examinations in Subsidiary Subjects: The minimum pass mark is 50%.
- A student must pass in Principles of Surgery before continuing with the programme.
- A student must pass in Applied Oral Pathology at least two and a half years prior to the examination in the major subject.
- Examination and Evaluation in the Major Subject:
- If a student fails the major subject, they must reapply for admission to the final examination of the College of Maxillofacial and Oral Surgery.
- A student who fails a second examination must discontinue the programme.
- A subminimum of 60% in the clinical section and 50% in all other sections is required to pass.
- A student must submit and pass a mini-dissertation or dissertation and comply with requirements regarding operation procedures.
Exemption
Exemption may be granted by the Dean on the recommendation of the Head of Department, considering comparable training and/or experience.
Pass with Distinction
A student who obtains a final mark of at least 75% in the major subject qualifies to obtain the degree with distinction.
General Information
- The content of basic and subsidiary subjects is determined by the Head of Department.
- Students must ensure they acquire certificates of satisfactory preparation in all attendance courses.
Major Subject: Maxillofacial and Oral Surgery
Experience is acquired through practical and clinical training, supplemented by seminars, discussions, papers, and research.
Subsidiary Subject: Principles of Surgery
Instruction is mainly provided by the Departments of Surgery and its divisions, over nine months.

- ChirMaxFac-Med: A candidate with a BChD or BDS degree should preferably enroll for this programme.
- ChirMaxFac-Dent: Permission is granted for simultaneous registration in postgraduate and undergraduate programmes.
