Architecture MArch (Hons)

The Architecture MArch (Hons) course is an integrated Masters program that allows students to study in dedicated Architecture studios in the UK's only UNESCO City of Design.

Overview

Dundee is an ideal location to study architecture due to its creative reputation and ambitious city regeneration. Students will gain essential knowledge and skills in design, communications, architectural history and theory, and sustainable technology.

Course Structure

The course is five years long, with the following structure:

• Three years of academic study (ARB/RIBA Part 1)
• A year in practice
• Two years of academic study (ARB/RIBA Part 2)
• A further period in practice

Teaching and Assessment

Design tutorials and the majority of learning take place in the architecture studio. Students will be encouraged to work in a 'hands-on' way, developing and testing their ideas through manual and digital drawings, models, and prototypes. They will work in small studio groups and on a one-to-one basis with experienced tutors, who are usually registered architects.

Professional Accreditation

This course is prescribed by the Architects Registration Board (ARB), validated by the Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA), and also validated and recognised by the Malaysian Board of Architects (LAM) for Parts 1 and 2.

Changes to Professional Qualification

The Architects Registration Board (ARB) is changing the educational requirements necessary to register as an architect. From December 2027, the ARB will only prescribe Master's level qualifications as well as the professional qualification which follows.

ARB/RIBA Part 2 Courses

If students have completed their RIBA Part 1 or an equivalent undergraduate degree in architecture at another university, they can apply to Dundee for Part 2. There are two options available:

• Architecture RIBA Part 2 MArch (Hons)
• Architecture with Urban Planning RIBA Part 2 MArch (Hons)
