What You Will Learn
In this module, students will explore different aspects of photography as an element of art and design practice. The curriculum includes:
- The ethics of photography
- Studio practice
- Landscape
- Street photography Students will learn to use the camera as a creative tool, enhancing their skills and creative options. A range of online resources and technical workshops will support the development of skills.
Teaching Methods and Timetable
The module is delivered through weekly sessions, consisting of lectures that introduce historical, contextual, and visual information about photographers and their work. These lectures are supported by small group critiques and individual tutorials. Technical introductions to the use of the photographic studio and lighting are also provided, along with an optional introduction to the use of the darkroom.

- Production of a substantial body of practical work demonstrating skills developed during the module
- Appropriate editing and selection of images

- Evidence of imagination, ideas, and originality

- Self-motivation and ability to investigate independently and creatively Students are required to submit two PDFs: one containing research and the other containing between 6 and 12 final images along with a 500-word narrative about their work.
