Program Overview
Introduction to the Primary Education PGDE Program
The Primary Education PGDE program is offered by the School of Humanities, Social Sciences and Law at the University of Dundee.
Teaching
The program utilizes a variety of teaching methods, including whole cohort lectures, practical workshops, and group tutorials, to provide a rich and varied learning experience. The University's virtual learning environment, My Dundee, is also used to support learning, allowing students to access materials online and engage in self-directed study.
The program consists of two on-campus modules, each lasting approximately 15 weeks, spread out across the academic year. In addition to the on-campus modules, there are three professional placements in schools, each lasting six weeks. The program starts with on-campus time, followed by two study weeks and then the first placement, with this format repeated twice more.
Assessment
Each campus-based module is assessed by a written assignment. The professional practice placements are assessed by both University staff and school partners, based on performance throughout the placement and tutor observation. The assessments are based on the General Teaching Council for Scotland's Standard for Provisional Registration, which are the competence standards for teachers in Scotland.
