Social Transformation Studies Degree
The Social Transformation Studies program equips students with the knowledge and tools needed to tackle social justice issues. Courses examine the origins and dynamics of discrimination; legal and political movements for social change; and the achievements and leadership of people of color, women, and LGBTQ people.
Bachelor's Degree in Social Transformation Studies
The Bachelor's Degree in Social Transformation Studies is a 30-credit major that offers two tracks: American Ethnic Studies and Gender, Women, and Sexuality Studies. All students take three core courses: Transforming Society, Practicing Social Justice, and Pathways to Social Change.

The K-State Difference
Social Transformation Studies is the only program of its kind in Kansas, combining the interdisciplinary traditions of American Ethnic Studies and Gender, Women, and Sexuality Studies. The department offers students knowledge and skills that enable them to launch and sustain careers devoted to tackling some of the most pressing social issues facing Kansans and Americans more broadly.
Hands-on Experience
Students get hands-on experience in the community through the required Practicing Social Justice course and can opt to do an additional internship with a local non-profit organization. Small class sizes offer individualized attention from faculty members and foster community among students.
Undergraduate Research
At a public research university like K-State, students have direct access to research opportunities from the start. K-State undergraduates have studied sustainable energy, cancer cells, musical lyrics, and many other topics alongside nationally renowned faculty at K-State's 90-plus research centers.
Study Abroad
Studying in another country allows students to experience the wonders of another culture, broadens their horizons, and makes them stronger citizens in our global society. There are more than 85 countries currently participating in K-State's education abroad programs.
Health Professions
K-State is a great place to start the journey toward becoming a healthcare professional. Students will have a dedicated health professions advisor who will help them navigate the professional school application process for their chosen healthcare field.
Pre-Law
K-State pre-law students are accepted into law school at a rate substantially exceeding the national average. In preparing for law school, students will work with a dedicated pre-law advisor and select the major of their choice in any department in any college within the university.
