Description
The Military History Graduate Microcredential combines the history of military operations with cultural, social, and political history to learn how war has been fought, its effects, and the diverse roles that people play in war. This microcredential equips learners with advanced knowledge in the development of modern warfare while expanding regional expertise, which is valued by government agencies. Through close examination of military history, doctrine, and operations, learners will be equipped to understand, research, analyze, explain, and teach the subject. The program also explores on-ramps to MA and PhD programs in History and related fields.
Understanding the history of warfare is more important than ever in today's rapidly changing security environment. The Military History Graduate Microcredential helps learners develop skills and become content experts as they explore opportunities in university, community college, and high school history teaching professions. To demonstrate mastery of each course, learners must achieve a minimum grade of 80%. Successful learners will receive a digital badge to showcase the skills earned.
Requirements
To complete the microcredential, learners must complete three of the following courses:
- HIST 801 - Historiography (3 credits)
- HIST 850 - History and Security: East Asia (3 credits)
- HIST 983 - Topics in Military History (3 credits)
- HIST 990 - Seminar in Military History (3 credits)
- HIST 991 - Seminar in American Military Affairs (3 credits)
- HIST 855 - History and Security: Modern Africa since 1850 (3 credits)
- HIST 860 - Topics in International History (3 credits)

The microcredential is classified as Advanced.
Eligibility
Anyone is eligible to enroll in the Military History Graduate Microcredential.
Credit or Noncredit
The microcredential is offered for credit at the graduate level.
