Introduction to the Course of Studies

The three-year Course of Studies (CdS) in Political Science (Class L-36) aims to provide a solid foundation in the classical disciplinary areas of political science, with a focus on the international and European dimensions. The CdS is characterized by a strong multidisciplinary approach, centered on the study of demographic, economic, legal, socio-political, and historical dynamics, with the goal of training professionals to operate with solid competencies in both national and international contexts.

Course Objectives and Structure

The CdS offers a multidisciplinary approach, valuing various areas of learning, including law (with a particular focus on international and European Union profiles), economics, sociology, political science, history, statistics, and linguistics. The course also includes training paths (elective courses and laboratories) aimed at acquiring transversal skills and entrepreneurship. The related courses intend to provide students with a broad foundation that integrates different scientific and methodological approaches, enabling them to understand and address complex political, legal, economic, and cultural realities at both national and international levels.

Course Content and Learning Outcomes

The CdS, which has undergone a revision of its curriculum and denomination starting from the academic year, aims to provide solid foundational knowledge, multidisciplinary content, and methodological tools that constitute the basis for further studies (master's degrees, first-level master's degrees) or direct application in the job market. The acquisition and application of legal, economic, sociological, political, historical, and statistical knowledge, with adequate linguistic support, provide students with the necessary tools to master the characteristics of a global society in which various actors (states, public administrations, international organizations, NGOs, companies, and individual operators) can address problems and seize opportunities in the current globalized economic, legal, and political system.

Career Opportunities and Professional Profiles

The CdS is oriented towards preparing officials and experts in international and European activities, destined to carry out administrative and project-related activities, also with an international vocation. The course prepares students for careers in:

  • Administrative and project-related activities with an international vocation
  • Economic-political analysis at the national, European, and international levels
  • Analysis and project-related activities in the complex field of immigration and human rights protection
  • Management of peace-keeping and peace-building processes
  • Promotion of Italian socio-political and economic culture abroad

Flexibility and Personalization

The study path offers partial flexibility through the provision of some alternative courses, allowing students to make personalized choices. The CdS also includes the acquisition of 2 CFU for other activities useful for entering the job market, which can be constituted by participation in various training initiatives, such as laboratories for acquiring transversal skills, training laboratories for preparing national and European Union projects, writing and computer labs, and conference and seminar activities organized by the Department of Political Science.

Additional Activities and Recognition

Additionally, there is the possibility of recognizing other activities useful for student training (e.g., civil service, language certifications, computer certifications, or activities carried out with public and private entities, experiences abroad within the Erasmus+ program or similar, study trips abroad organized by a department teacher and realized with the patronage of the University).
