Program Overview

Introduction to the University Program

The Institution of Economics at the Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences (SLU) offers doctoral studies in business economics, national economics, and applied economics. Completing a doctoral degree at this institution provides a clear subject orientation, typically applied to the agricultural sector or environmental issues.

Program Details

  • The doctoral program is four years long and leads to a doctoral degree.
  • There is also an option to complete the studies after two years and receive a licentiate degree.
  • Approximately one-third of the study time is devoted to coursework, and the remaining time to research work.
  • After completing the education, one can expect a continued academic career or a career in industry or government agencies.

Research Areas

The Institution of Economics typically employs doctoral students for the fall semester every other year, but sometimes also continuously throughout the year. All doctoral students receive a doctoral position (with social benefits) financed by either institutional funds or external funding sought by the supervisors.

Available Positions

Available positions are advertised on SLU's website. Being a doctoral student at this institution is a fun and exciting challenge, and it means that as a doctoral student, you become an active part of the institution's various research groups.
