Admission Requirements
To be admitted to the Master's Program in Food Control, the following requirements must be met:
- Basic Eligibility: A degree at the basic level of at least 180 higher education credits or the equivalent foreign degree.
- Special Eligibility: Specialization comprising 90 credits in one of the following subjects/fields of study:
- Biology
- Animal Science
- Food Science
- Nutrition
- Public Health Science
- Medicine
- Environmental Science
- Chemistry
- Food and Meal Science
- Nutrition Science The requirement for special eligibility is also met by those who have a professional degree as a veterinarian, biomedical analyst, or dietitian. Additionally, knowledge equivalent to the requirement for Swedish for basic eligibility at the basic level and English 6 is required.
Program Content
The Master's Program in Food Control begins with a course in food technology, providing a foundation for further studies. Subsequent courses cover both natural and social science aspects of food control. The natural science courses include food hygiene, food microbiology, food technology, food safety, and quality management systems. The social science components of the education include communication, control methods, political science with a focus on administration and authorities, decision-making, authority exercise, and food and administrative legislation.

Career Opportunities
After completing the education, students can work in food control, for example, as food inspectors. They can also continue to study for a licentiate or doctoral degree.
Degree
The Master's Program in Food Control leads to a Master's degree with a major in Food Science. The Master's degree is a general degree. See also SLU's local degree regulations. The student who meets the requirements for the degree will, upon request, receive a degree certificate. The degree certificate is linked to the designation Master's degree with a major in Food Science (degree of Master of Science (60 credits) with a major in Food Science).
Degree Requirements
A Master's degree with a major in Food Science is achieved after completed course requirements (passed courses) of 60 higher education credits, of which at least 45 credits at the advanced level with the following requirements:
- At least 15 credits of courses with in-depth studies in the main field of Food Science (A1N; A1F).
- At least 15 credits of independent work (degree project) in the main field of Food Science (A1E). Additionally, a requirement for a passed Bachelor's degree, professional degree of at least 180 higher education credits, or the equivalent foreign degree is set.
