Program Overview


Introduction to Labriola Summer Studio

The Labriola Innovation Hub Summer Program at Colorado School of Mines introduces high school students to hands-on technical and design skills, the entrepreneurial mindset, and the vibrant engineering and innovation ecosystem at Mines. Through immersive experiences, collaborative projects, and direct engagement with faculty and campus resources, students gain early exposure to engineering disciplines and are inspired to explore their future in STEM.


Program Details

Forge & Form: Engineering Innovation at Mines

This one-week summer program invites rising high school juniors and seniors to explore the intersection of materials science, engineering, and design through hands-on experiences in the Labriola Innovation Hub. Developed in collaboration with faculty from the Materials and Metallurgical Engineering department, the program blends technical skill-building with rapid prototyping, critical thinking, and communication development. Students will engage in a mini design challenge, gain exposure to the entrepreneurial mindset, and interact with Mines faculty and resourcesoffering a dynamic introduction to engineering disciplines and campus life before their undergraduate journey begins.

  • Session 1: July 13 17, 9 am 4 pm
  • Session 2: July 20 24, 9 am 4 pm
  • Location: Colorado School of Mines Campus Golden, Colorado

Participant Information

  • 30 students per session
  • Rising high school juniors and seniors
  • Must be 16 years old by the time of camp participation

  • Fee: $850, lunch included
  • Equipment: Participants are asked to bring their own laptops if possible (loaners are available on request)

Instructor Bio

Kim Scott

Dr. Kim Scott is an Assistant Teaching Professor in the Metallurgical and Materials Engineering Department at Colorado School of Mines, where she teaches several hands-on laboratory courses and will be entering her fifth year at Mines in Fall 2026. A former battery engineer with seven years of research & development experience, Dr. Scott loves tinkering, experimenting, and exploring how materials science influences the world around us. She is passionate about inspiring the next generation of engineers and helping students discover the creativity and impact of materials science engineering.


Labriola Staff

Victoria Bill

Victoria Bill is the Founding Director of the Labriola Innovation Hub and Complex. She has over 10 years of experience in makerspaces and co-curricular engineering student development, founding academic makerspaces at Cooper Union and New York University. Her background is electrical engineering and engineering education, and she loves making, embedded systems and wearable technology, and antenna design. Her interests and work focus on community building and hands-on, experiential learning for engineers and future engineering students.
