Hofstra's Bachelor of Science in Nursing
Hofstra's Bachelor of Science in Nursing program provides students with actual nursing experience from day one, leveraging the clinical and educational resources of Northwell Health. The program features a brand new state-of-the-art building complete with simulation labs and a clinical skills center, guaranteeing hands-on clinical hours at Northwell Health. The faculty is accredited, diverse, and board-certified.
State of the Art Nursing Facilities
The Science & Innovation Center is the new home for the School of Nursing and Physician Assistant Studies. This 75,000 square foot building features labs and simulation facilities for nursing students pursuing Hofstra's new nursing bachelor's degree program and its nurse practitioner doctoral program.
Hofstra Northwell Connection
The undergraduate nursing program collaborates with Northwell Health, New York state's largest healthcare provider and private employer. Students work directly with faculty to secure clinical placements with one of the partner Northwell facilities, with observations in healthcare settings beginning as early as the first year.

About the Nursing Program
The Bachelor of Science degree prepares students for a career in one of the fastest-growing professions in the nation. The program, through an interprofessional learning model, will graduate RNs who will be prepared to provide quality, holistic, scientifically sound, and evidenced-based patient-centered care.
Program Purpose
The purpose of the baccalaureate in nursing program is to prepare nurse generalists to be providers, innovators, leaders, managers, and coordinators of care as well as ethical members of the nursing profession and to pursue graduate-level education.
Curriculum
The baccalaureate curriculum is designed to prepare graduates for lifelong learning and an active role in all facets of innovative quality health care delivery systems in a variety of acute and primary care settings.
Admission Requirements
- The Bachelor of Science with a major in Nursing is a Direct-Entry program. Students must indicate a major of nursing on their application to be considered.
- Applicants may apply with test-optional admission as nursing applications will be reviewed holistically.
- The final candidates will be invited for an interview.
- Admission to this program is highly selective with limited seating offered. The deadline to submit a deposit for admitted students is May 1.
Entry Requirements
Nursing applications will be reviewed holistically, but anticipated averages for admitted students include:
- An SAT score of 1250 (evidence-based reading and writing + math sections)
- An ACT score of 28
- A cumulative high school grade point average of 3.6 Applicants must have a strong background in mathematics and science, with a high school biology and/or chemistry course with a laboratory strongly recommended.
Progression Requirements
- Attend Hofstra University for all undergraduate coursework
- Adhere to professional standards, university policies, and Nursing Program policies
- Achieve a minimum final grade of C+ in each nursing course in the program
- Achieve a minimum cumulative overall grade point average (GPA) of 2.75 for each of the eight semesters
- Follow the prescribed curriculum and remain in the undergraduate nursing program
- Meet with the undergraduate nursing program adviser at least once each semester
- Document prescribed clinical and laboratory hours
