Program Overview
The Fine Arts, Design program at Hofstra University offers students the opportunity to take internships in art or design for credit by registering for FA 106, Special Projects. This allows students to gain practical experience in their field of study.
Internship Opportunities
Many fine arts students take advantage of Hofstra's proximity to New York City by applying for internships at renowned museums, galleries, broadcasting outlets, magazines and publishing houses, and record labels. Faculty members within the Department of Fine Arts, Design, Art History maintain strong connections to the professional world and are able to help students network with art professionals.
Departmental Approval and Guidance
Any internship taken for credit must have departmental approval and the guidance of a faculty advisor to ensure the student receives proper academic credit.
On-Campus Opportunities
- The FORM gallery, located in Calkins Hall, the home of the Department of Fine Arts, Design, Art History, is an on-campus space that regularly hosts student exhibitions.
- Students are in charge of creating, planning, installing, and promoting the exhibits.
- The Department hosts the annual, juried Spring Student Art Show, highlighting student work from various disciplines, including:
- Ceramics
- Graphic design
- New media
- Industrial design
- Photography
- Painting
- Sculpting
- Illustration
