The Master of Science in Athletic Training at Hofstra University is designed to prepare students as highly skilled leaders in the field. This campus-based program offers classes weekdays and evenings, with clinical experiences taking place during the week and weekends. The MSAT is an accredited program by the Commission on Accreditation of Athletic Training Education (CAATE) and is designed to exceed the CAATE standards and prepare students for the Board of Certification (BOC) Examination for the Athletic Trainer and professional practice as an Athletic Trainer.

Requirements
- To be considered for the MS in Athletic Training at Hofstra University, you must have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 from a baccalaureate degree-granting institution, and cumulative prerequisite coursework GPA of 2.75.
- The following prerequisites are required to be taken within the last 10 years, though conditional admission may be offered:
- Anatomy & Physiology 1 with lab (or Human Anatomy with lab)
- Anatomy & Physiology 2 with lab (or Human Physiology with lab)
- Biology
- Physics (with lab preferred)
- Chemistry (with lab preferred)
- Psychology
- Exercise Physiology
- Kinesiology or Biomechanics
- Statistics
Application Documents
- Transcripts from all previously attended colleges and universities.
- Current resume.
- Two letters of recommendation [one from a licensed health care practitioner (e.g., Athletic Trainer, Physician, Physical Therapist, Occupational Therapist, Nurse Practitioner, Physician Assistant, or Chiropractor preferred), and one from an Athletic Trainer who supervised student in health care experience hours].
- A personal statement of purpose that summarizes your background and rationale for applying to the program.
- Documentation of 50 hours of prior health care experience. Fifty percent or more hours must be under the supervision of an Athletic Trainer.
- Current Certificate of CPR, AED and First Aid Certification.

Faculty Profile
Jayne Kitsos Ellinger
- Dr. Jayne Kitsos Ellinger, Program Director and Associate Professor, serves as a primary instructor for the MS in Athletic Training.
- She is the faculty advisor for the University's chapter Iota Tau Alpha, the National Athletic Training Honor Society.
- Dr. Ellinger's administrative service has included program director for the BS in Athletic Training program (2004-Present), coordinator for the Department of Health Profession's Health and Safety program (2004-Present), and chairperson for the Department of Health Professions.
Kristin L. LoNigro
- Kristin LoNigro, Associate Professor, serves as the clinical education coordinator and instructor for the MS in Athletic Training.
- She is the faculty advisor for the Hofstra Athletic Training Society, the program's pre-professional club and for the National Public Health Week student film competition.
- Professor LoNigro is also a committee member of the Inter Professional Education Team and serves on the National Athletic Training, ATs Care Commission.
Program Completion
- The MS in Athletic Training is awarded to students who successfully complete 53 semester hours.
