Finance at NIU
The Bachelor of Science in Finance program at Northern Illinois University (NIU) is designed to master the art of money management. From start-ups to Fortune 500 companies, businesses need people who can put money to work. As a finance major, students will learn how to manage acquisitions and funds for individuals and organizations. With internships and other opportunities for hands-on learning, students will have the business knowledge, skills, and network for a fulfilling finance career.
Program Overview
The program will prepare students to take the exam to become a Chartered Financial Analyst (C.F.A.) or Certified Treasury Professional (C.T.P.). Students will be ready to handle important tasks related to purchasing, sales, asset management, and investing for businesses, government offices, and/or individuals.

What to Expect as a Finance Major at NIU
Students will begin by taking core business and finance courses, as well as general education classes. In their senior year, they will take in-depth courses in investments, banking, and/or corporate finance. Along the way, students will have opportunities to gain real-world experience in areas like investments and portfolio management.

First-year Students
- High School GPA: 3.0 or higher for guaranteed general NIU admission
- ACT/SAT SCORES: Not required
Transfer Students
- ALL COLLEGES GPA: 2.0 or higher for guaranteed general NIU admission
- ALL COLLEGES GPA: 3.0 or higher for guaranteed renewable merit scholarship
