BS, Biological Sciences, Concentration in Systems Physiology
Program Overview
BS, Biological Sciences, Concentration in Systems Physiology
Description of the Program
The Systems Physiology concentration is designed for students who plan to attend professional health schools, pursue graduate study, or work in research positions that require knowledge of physiological systems and data collection. This concentration provides a specialized program focused on bodily systems.
Course Requirements
A Minor in Chemistry is required for this degree. The course requirements for the BS, Biological Sciences, Concentration in Systems Physiology include:
- Completion of specific biology and chemistry courses
- A minimum number of upper-division elective courses
Four Year Roadmap
A sample 4-year academic plan is available for the Systems Physiology concentration. Students are expected to create their own academic plan with the help of their advisors. It is recommended that students take BIOL 124 and BIOL 125 as soon as possible, usually in the fall of their junior year, to allow for timely graduation.
Research Opportunities in Systems Physiology
Students can complete undergraduate research in faculty research labs for credit, which can be used to count for one upper-division elective course. Interested students can read more about research opportunities on the Research in Biological Sciences page.
Systems Physiology Honors Program
Students with a minimum 3.5 majors GPA (3.0 all SJSU GPA) can complete an honors research thesis to graduate with department honors.
