Overview

There has been an increased emphasis laid upon evidence-based practice within healthcare in the NHS. The implication is that senior practitioners, be they medical, nursing or therapists, should have the ability to formulate key clinical questions relevant to their practice, to search the literature using expert librarians as appropriate, and be able to appraise published evidence for its quality and its relevance to their own practice.

This module seeks to provide the student with an understanding of the fundamental concepts of clinical effectiveness. The module will form an essential foundation for future study. With this in mind, there will be some exploration of wider aspects of research, such as the potential of different research methods and relevant statistical principles. Students will develop skills in appraising evidence and will gain practical insight into the research processes underpinning clinical effectiveness.

This is a core module for a number of our level 7 programmes.
