Program Overview
Introduction to the LLM Law Program
The LLM Law degree from Robert Gordon University is designed to equip students with the knowledge and skills to enhance their professional career in a range of legal environments. The program incorporates maximum flexibility, both in the topics covered and the way that students learn, whether online or on campus.
Program Structure
The LLM Law course involves the study of eight taught modules plus a dissertation on a degree-related subject. Students who do not hold an LLB degree or equivalent will be required to study the Legal Framework module. The choice of modules for any one candidate may be limited by module availability, timetabling factors, prerequisites, and other reasons approved by the Dean of School.

- On Campus: Full-time and part-time options are available, with start dates in September and January.
- Online Learning: Full-time and part-time options are available, with a start date in January.
Course Length
The duration of the program varies depending on the mode of study:
- On Campus, Full-time: 12 months (September start) or 16 months (January start)
- On Campus, Part-time: 24 months (September start) or 32 months (January start)
- Online Learning, Full-time: 16 months (January start)
- Online Learning, Part-time: 36 months (January start)
What You Will Study
The program covers a wide range of areas, including Law and Technology, Energy Law, International Commercial Law, International Law, and Dispute Resolution. Students can also specialize in these areas through specific pathways of the LLM Law degree.
Teaching and Assessment
Students learn through a combination of lectures, seminars, and workshop sessions. Access to the virtual learning environment, Moodle, is provided, giving students access to learning materials from home. Assessment methods include written exams, written assignments, and a dissertation.
Entry Requirements
Applicants will normally hold a 2:2 undergraduate honors degree or its equivalent in any subject discipline. Applicants with relevant work experience will be considered on a case-by-case basis. English language requirements apply, with an IELTS score of 6.5 overall, and no component lower than 5.5, or an equivalent.

Robert Gordon University offers a 20% discount on course fees for all alumni who have graduated from RGU.

Accreditation
Upon successful completion, in addition to their LLM, students can obtain exemption from the Associate Membership of Chartered Institute of Arbitrators (ACIArb) examination. Selected modules of the LLM courses are recognized by CIArb.
