Program Overview

What is Healthcare Science Practitioner Apprenticeship (Vascular Science) BSc (Hons)?

Healthcare scientists are involved in 80% of all clinical decisions in the NHS. The diagnostic tests they perform, analyse and interpret ensure patients have the correct diagnosis so that treatment pathways are accurate and lead to improvements in quality of life.

Working within the demanding field of Vascular Science, Healthcare Scientists support the diagnosis, monitoring, treatment, prevention, and rehabilitation of diseases of the blood vessels. Vascular Science practitioners specifically work in a fast-paced, challenging and stimulating environment which combines the use of both traditional and innovative technologies in order to provide excellent patient care and clinical support. Enjoying interaction with people and having excellent communication skills are a vital part of the role.

By studying Vascular Science at University of Gloucestershire, you’ll get access to leading expertise, facilities, and technology. We’ll enable you to gain the knowledge, skills, and clinical experiences that will nurture a rewarding career in Vascular healthcare services. More importantly, once qualified, you’ll have the opportunity to work within an expanding field that positively impacts patients’ lives.

University of Gloucestershire has strong links to the NHS, hospitals and clinicians, which not only shape our curriculum but also ensure the skills you’re learning are fully relevant to the workplace. This course has specifically been developed in partnership with the professional body and national Vascular Scientist Leads.

Throughout the course you will be completing specific performance competencies that are outlined in the Healthcare Science Practitioner (Integrated Degree) Apprenticeship Standard. The standard outlines the specific requirements to achieve on the Apprenticeship.

On the course you’ll also study a variety of healthcare science topics alongside your clinical employment. This provides you with invaluable experiences that use work-based application of the academic course content to develop your clinical skills and boost your ongoing career prospects.
