Program Overview

Introduction:

On this course, you’ll learn how to create innovative fashion concepts, taking your designs from an initial idea and sketch to a developed collection of concepts and designs.

You’ll complete several practical design projects often used by professional fashion designers, including draping on a mannequin and exploring fabric manipulation techniques to create unique silhouettes.

You’ll see your designs come to life and evolve from initial design to draping experiments on a dress form, so you can learn how fabrics behave, the way they sit and hang on the body, and how to make better choices when considering the suitability of a particular fabric for your designs.

It’s a great first step if you want to explore the processes involved in designing clothes for yourself or for others, or if are considering further studies in fashion or accessory design.

It’s also ideal for anyone who wants to enhance existing fashion skills and take their portfolio to a more professional level.

  • You’ll complete an independent project transforming one of your fashion designs into a 3D form and consider sustainable approaches to fabric selection.
  • By the end of the course, you’ll have a sketchbook and portfolio of new drawings and designs, plus photographs of your 3D work. You’ll have an appreciation of the steps involved in fashion concept development, and the motivation to keep designing into the future.
  • You’ll also leave this course having practiced various creative techniques of draping for fashion design, so you can take your designs to create your own garments in the future.
  • A certificate of attendance will be awarded upon completion of the course.

  • Here's what our previous attendees said:

‘Really interesting group of like-minded people on the course, who were all very friendly. I wanted to learn about draping and how to translate ideas from small scale to actual size. I've enjoyed being creative and free to experiment with different fabrics' SB

‘I loved every aspect of the course, it was great to be creative. We covered so many techniques, from sketching, photography, collage, paper modelling to draping. I decided to do the course because I love being creative and textiles, and I've enjoyed having a different focus and challenge each week. I've taken away the confidence to play with fabrics and to try new things. I would love if this was a longer course! VH

‘Thank you Hannah - I wanted to develop my skills to use in the workplace and now I know how to make garments to fit mannequins. Hannah shared interested challenged and the activities were well-timed' KM

    ‘Excellent course' EB
