This is a three-year part-time course leading to a Level 6 Construction Technology Higher Certificate award. It is designed to meet the needs of the construction industry for technical staff that have a sound understanding of the principles of construction technology and management, together with a good appreciation of general management skills and of the economics of the industry.

  • This award is particularly suitable for those who wish to attain technical positions relating to site management, contracts management, estimating and surveying in the construction industry. The majority of graduates work in building contracting or sub-contracting firms as Site Technicians, Estimators, Quantity Surveyors, Programmers, Planners, Contract Managers and Site Managers.


    Holders are also entitled to direct entry to the Ordinary Degree in Construction Technology.

    Admission Requirements

    Academic Requirements

    (The following academic requirements do not apply to mature students (i.e. Irish and other EU citizens who are 23 years of age in the 1st January on the proposed year of entry)

  • Leaving Certificate with passes in five subjects including Mathematics and English or Irish or an equivalent qualification. One of these five subjects must be at C3 or above in a higher level paper; Or,
  • National Craft Certificate in a construction trade (must be in possession of the National Craft Certificate at the time of application); Or,
  • Other equivalent qualifications (assessed on an individual basis).
  • Evidence of qualifications must be submitted with the application for admission to the course.

    Occupational Requirements

    (Applies to all applicants)

    Applicants should be in appropriate employment throughout the programme.

    Such employment is defined as any supervisory, administrative, or technical function in construction where the student has an input to, or provides support to, the management of construction. Such positions include, site technician, foreman, junior QS, site clerk/administrator, draughtsman, estimator, buildings maintenance supervisor, etc.

    Where an applicant is in full time employment, a letter of support from the applicant's employer should be submitted, stating that the student will be available to attend college lectures and assessments.
