Primary PGCE with QTS

Overview

The Primary PGCE with QTS is a one-year, full-time program that prepares students for a career in primary education. The program is designed to meet the requirements of the Initial Teacher Training Core Content Framework (ITTCCF) and is underpinned by research-informed practice.

  • Contemporary Issues in Primary Education (Core)
  • School Experience One (School placement)
  • School Experience Two (School placement)
  • School Experience Three (School placement)
  • Core curriculum (Core)

  • Building a Broader Curriculum (Core)

Entry Requirements

  • 2:2 previous degree
  • GCSEs (and equivalents) in English, Mathematics, and Science (or equivalent)
  • School observation experience
  • DBS check
  • Irish applicants must check specific requirements
  • Writing ability at a high level

Award

  • PfCE (Professional Certificate in Education) if only one pass at master's level
  • QTS if no passes at master's level, but successful completion of all other aspects

International Requirements

  • IELTS score of 6.5 overall with no less than 6 in any section (or equivalent)

Additional Information

  • Placements are within one hour's travel of the trainee's term-time address
  • Each school placement must be completed successfully before proceeding to the next
  • ECT (Early Career Teacher) Induction requirements apply
  • Catholic Certificate in Religious Studies (CCRS) available for those intending to teach in Roman Catholic and other Christian schools
