Student services
The University of Sunderland Students' Union is run by students for students and is a separate organisation from the University.
The Union is governed by a Board of Trustees, comprising 5 Officer Trustees (elected by you, the students every year) and 5 Lay Trustees (recruited for their expertise and experience). The Chief Executive and staff work alongside the Officer Trustees and other elected Officers to run the Union.
Housing services
Living in a student-friendly city like Sunderland is an amazing experience. We know moving away to university is one of the biggest and most exciting decisions you’ll ever make, and you’ll find a home from home at Sunderland.
The University offers a great choice of accommodation for you to choose from and our rent prices include heating, lighting, water, fuel, Wi-Fi and personal possessions insurance.
Library services
Library services offer access to excellent resources and the support and skills you need to make best use of them. Each library houses fantastic subject collections for you to borrow while a considerable range of books, journals and module resources are available online.
ICT services
IT Services can help you set up your University email account, connect your computer or smartphone to Wi-Fi or a wired internet connection, provide advice on software and internet security and much more.
There are a number of IT support desks in both campuses, so you're never far away from the advice you need.

Campus life
Sunderland has a rich history and one of the UK’s lowest costs of living. City Campus is at the centre of our modern city, and is home to our main administration and support services, library, lecture halls, and our excellent sport facilities at CitySpace. It is also the centre for the University’s Arts and Design courses and the Northern Centre of Photography.
The University’s impressive riverside campus is within easy reach of both the city and Sunderland’s miles of beautiful beaches. Business, Law, Tourism, Education and Social Sciences are based here, as is the University’s main centre for Computing and Engineering.
Sports facilities
Sport at the University of Sunderland has always been important, as it is to the City and to the North East of England.
Joining a club at university is a life changing experience, you’ll meet new friends for life, train and compete for each other and the university and also enjoy a great social and events programme.
They have over 30 clubs to choose from so there is something for everyone. All clubs provide weekly training sessions led by qualified coaches, transport (where relevant) and equipment.
Student clubs
Your University experience provides you with opportunities to grow, develop and achieve, throughout your life. These academic, social and civic experiences are valuable: to you, alumni, employers, and society more broadly. They encourage more equal access to jobs, and to roles in civil society.
