Student Life

Campus life

In each of Drake’s eight residence halls you will find all the makings of a great home away from home: nicely furnished rooms, air conditioning, cable and wireless internet, cable TV, common areas for hanging out with friends, and kitchens for cooking up a special treat.

Every residence hall floor has its own resident assistant (RA), available as a friend and resource, and you will find plenty of organized activities that provide the chance to meet people. You may also find that your new home comes with some proud old traditions, one reason each building has its own distinctive personality.

Sports facilities

Sports are a big part of life at Drake—from the chance to join the throng at a football game to representing your hall in intramural soccer or badminton.

Drake’s NCAA Division I athletics program boasts a proud history. Bulldog teams have won 59 Missouri Valley Conference championships, including a league-leading nine titles in men's cross country and eight in women's tennis. Drake women's basketball team has advanced to the NCAA Tournament seven times in the last 14 years.? And, in 2001, Drake became just the 18th school in NCAA I-AA history to achieve 500 or more victories in football.

Student clubs

Fortunately, with more than 160 clubs and organizations, you are virtually guaranteed to find options that fit your interests, talents, and goals. And if you don’t, you can start your own club. All it takes is a good idea and some like-minded friends ready to join in.

Not sure where to begin? Try our Activities Fairs. Each fall and spring, representatives of campus groups come out to sign up new members. Wander from table to table, ask questions, and see what sounds appealing.
