Library services
The University Libraries include the central Jafet Memorial Library and two branch libraries: the Engineering and Architecture Library and the Science and Agriculture Library with its annex the Advancing Research Enabling Communities Center (AREC) Library. The Saab Memorial Medical Library (SML) is one of the best medical libraries in the Middle East.

Campus life
Located in Ras Beirut, AUB's main campus has a total of 64 buildings. The 60.9 acre (246,459 square meter) campus overlooking the Mediterranean Sea includes athletic fields, private beach, bird sanctuary, and a repository of native and non-native trees and shrubs.
The American University of Beirut (AUB) operates under a charter granted by the Education Department of the State of New York in 1863, which registers the Universitys degree programs. AUB degrees are also recognized by the Lebanese government through the equivalence committees of the Ministry of Education and Higher Education.
