Services
Student services
The University offers extensive support to all students connected with the University, through Student Services and the Chaplaincy.
Acting as the first port of call for both undergraduate and postgraduate students, Student Services is tasked with helping students at St Andrews achieve what they deserve: the best university experience possible. Student Services also manages communication with anyone who is concerned about a student at the University, from parents and guardians to those in the local community and external agencies.
Student Services coordinates four main functions, each committed to monitoring and enhancing the student experience.
- Student experience
- Advice and support
- Discipline
- Wardennial service
Housing services
Our residences range from beautiful stone-built listed buildings full of original period features, to stylish new apartments, built to high environmental and sustainability standards. Importantly, all of our accommodation adheres to government licensing requirements so you can be certain that we always meet a rigorous standard of accommodation maintenance and health and safety criteria.
A range of catered and self-catered accommodation is available, with a choice of standard rooms with shared bathroom facilities or ensuite. Ensuite rooms include a toilet, sink and shower attached to the room for the sole use of the occupants.
Library services
- Those living in the local community are welcome to use the Main University Library. You can become a member of the Library and borrow books, or just visit to consult material. Within the Library, there is the option to study in silent areas or enjoy the bustling social spaces.
- The library houses a cafe and help is available from the Library Helpdesk and IT Service Desk.
Medical services
- Taking care of your health and wellbeing during your studies is important. The University of St Andrews highly recommends that you register with a doctor in St Andrews at the start of your studies.
- Students with pre-existing health conditions must contact the primary care practice of their choice before arriving in St Andrews.

Campus life

The University works hard to maintain a good relationship between all residents — from members of staff and their families, to students and the rest of the local community. St Andrews residents can benefit from a number of University facilities available to them — even if they do not have a direct connection to the University.
- The Music Centre offers the opportunity to perform, listen to or learn about music.
- There are a number of productions each year at the University’s two theatres.
Sports facilities
- The University Sports Centre offers fitness services, classes and personal training to students, staff and the local community of St Andrews. Situated towards the west of the town and near the golf courses, the Sports Centre can also provide additional services including equipment for hire, professional advice on fitness training, and help with organising training camps.
- The Sports Centre has a range of indoor and outdoor facilities available all year round, including dedicated fitness suites, gymnasium, studio and free weights room. Outside spaces include synthetic turf pitches, tennis courts, athletics track, football, rugby, cricket and shinty pitches.
