Student services
All full-time registered students are automatically members of the Students' Union and the Union’s main activities are to:
- Represent your day to day interests on campus
- Ensure your voice is heard
- Protect your welfare needs
- Protect your educational needs
- Organise events
- Be your representative on Institute committees
The Union actively seeks to prevent problems arising for students. It is both a strong lobbying and representative organisation working on behalf of the students of WIT.Your Union is only as strong as its members - so get involved from day one!
Housing services
College Fields consists of 69 Single En-suite rooms of which 3 are suitable for disabled access. These apartments are located on the Main Campus with easy access to all WIT services and facilities.
City Campus consists of two four-storey apartment blocks comprising of 94 apartments with many of our rooms especially designed for use by disabled students. The Campus provides students with an outlet where they can socialise and interact with fellow students. Our Recreational Area is an excellent facility to meet and get to know your fellow City Campus house mates. You can relax in easy surroundings with large screen plasma TV, pool tables.
Library services
Two libraries serve Waterford Institute of Technology - the Luke Wadding Library and College Street Campus Library. During term we open 62 hours per week, and we have extended opening hours near and during exam periods. Keep an eye on our news section for up-to-date details on the library and our services.The libraries comprise over 200.000, and over 120,000 eBook titles.
ICT services
The Computer Services department is responsible for the maintenance and development of Institute IT facilities including general computing facilities for staff and students, data and phone networks, e-mail facilities and MIS systems
Some specialised computer facilities associated with certain academic departments are managed by local technicians in these departments
Medical services
The Rowe Creavin Medical practice is delighted to announce an extension of its partnership with Waterford Institute of Technology to include student medical services.
Student Life
Campus life
The Institute has developed an attractive modern university-level campus environment for staff and students at its main campus, the College Street campus, the Applied Technology campus and the new Architecture building in Waterford Treasures in the heart of the city. A large additional campus at Carriganore, just outside the city, has already had significant development and provides an asset base suitable for future development. It is a base for our research activities, particularly in the ICT area, as well as some corporate services and sports facilities.
Sports facilities
Waterford Institute of Technology’s Sports Campus covers almost 160 acres of land that runs from the old Kilmeaden road down to the bank of the river Suir. 50 acres of the land is set aside specifically for sports facilities, which includes the following;
Three full sized floodlight grass pitches
Top class GAA approved all weather pitch (full sized GAA or two soccer pitches)
2km undulating outdoor run
8 first class changing facilities
Physiotherapy rooms
Team meeting rooms
Cricket pitch
