Services

Student services

Our International Student and Scholar Services staff is dedicated to supporting your endeavors and ensuring your success at The New School. We look forward to meeting you. We provide both immigration advice and cultural support in a welcoming and friendly environment. We want The New School to be your home away from home.

We are here to help you meet the challenge of stepping outside the boundaries of the world you know as you interact with other students and members of the university community.

Housing services

University housing is more than just four walls and a roof. It's an opportunity to form bonds, ease the transition from home to college, and make new friends for life. In our residence halls, fashion design majors live with architects, and anthropologists collide with jazz musicians. Living side by side with students in different colleges and from different backgrounds, you'll have the opportunity to make connections, meet collaborators, and experiment in a safe and supportive environment.

We have five residence halls which are co-ed, with the option to select gender-inclusive housing, and each includes a lounge, an art studio, a music practice room, a kitchen, and washers and dryers.

Library services

The New School Libraries & Archives provides access to collections, services and spaces sufficient in quality, depth, diversity, format and currency to support the research and teaching missions of The New School.

Together, these collections, services and spaces support The New School’s interdisciplinary approach to education and offer an excellent starting place for research.

Medical services

We provide medical, psychological, and wellness support services to our students year-round. The mission of our Student Health and Support Services is to enhance the health and well-being of students to foster their learning and success.

We provide health-related workshops, trainings, and face-to-face sessions on a wide range of topics as fitness, smoking cessation, LGBTQIAGNC wellness, and more.

Student Life

Campus life

The New School is situated in the heart of New York City's Greenwich Village, with an academic quad that extends from 11th to 16th Streets along Fifth and Sixth Avenues. Our urban campus places students at the center of one of the world's most vibrant and diverse communities, immersing them in the opportunities and conversations that are shaping the future. Rather than considering New York City to be merely the home of our university, we employ it as an extension of our campus and as an integral part of an educational experience that gives students access to the thinkers and doers who make the city a global cultural leader.

Sports facilities

The Department of Athletics and Recreation offers students opportunities to take part in physical exercise and sports while meeting new people, enjoying social interaction, and building community. We design programs and activities for students at all levels of experience, ability, knowledge, and interest. We also help our student staff members develop leadership and professional abilities.

We Offer:

  • Varsity athletics (soccer, basketball, cross-country track, tennis)
  • Group fitness classes (yoga, Pilates, Zumba, dance, and others)
  • Outdoor adventure activities (hiking, rock climbing, whitewater rafting, and others)
  • Intramural sports (organized team sports)

Student clubs

We encourage you to get involved in university-recognized student organizations. It is a rewarding experience that helps you grow - socially and in areas of leadership - while establishing lifelong friendships.

Degree-seeking students have an opportunity to join any of our 50+ student organizations or create one of their own.

Student Groups:

  • Pre-Professional and Academic Interest
  • Political Action and Advocacy
  • International Interest
  • Art, Music, and Performance
  • Social and Special Interest
  • Faith-Based, Religious, Spiritual Interest
