Services

Student services

The Student Service Centre comprises the most important services the university provides for students. The student data administration staff, the advisory service staff and the staff from the thoska office will be glad to help you.

Housing services

Due to the housing shortage in Jena we advise you to look for a room/flat as soon as poosible and to also consider moving to one of the surrounding cities (for example Weimar or Erfurt.) The Studierendenwerk Thüringen offers rooms in dorms and apartments for students. Apply here in any case and note the application deadlines (15 January and 15 July.) If you wish or need to search for a room on the private market, please use our list of useful links.

Library services

The permanent subcommittee for library issues (library committee) is concerned with the preparation of draft proposals in all matters of the Thuringian State and University Library (ThULB). Its deals with essential issues of the ThULB (e.g. strategic development, media structure, course structure, ressource allocations) and essential questions around the use and operation of the library.

Student Life

Campus life

The student services organization Studierendenwerk Thüringen manages 21 halls of residence in Jena with a total of 3,000 places. There are a few individual apartments, however, most students stay in single rooms in shared flats with between one and eight other students, who share a kitchen and a bathroom.

The rent (approx. €200–350 per month) is fixed for a period of 6 months. This means that you have to pay higher monthly rent for a shorter period of use. The Studierendenwerk requires a deposit of €300 after concluding the tenancy agreement. The application deadlines are 15 January and 15 July for the following semester.
