Overview:
Shijiazhuang Tiedao University (Railway Institute), formerly known as the People's Liberation Army Railway Engineering College, was established in 1950. It was a key military institution and was later designated as a national key university in 1979. In 1984, it was transferred to the Ministry of Railways and renamed Shijiazhuang Railway Institute. In 2000, it was transferred to Hebei Province, becoming a key university jointly built by the central government and the province. In 2010, it was renamed Shijiazhuang Tiedao University. In 2015, it was approved as a jointly built university by the Hebei Provincial People's Government, the National Railway Administration, and the Ministry of Education. In 2016, it was designated as a key university and a first-class university and first-class discipline construction university by Hebei Province.

The university has two campuses: the main campus in Shijiazhuang and the Longshan campus in Yuan'shi County. The university has a strong focus on railway-related research and education. It has a number of research institutes and laboratories, including the State Key Laboratory of Traffic Engineering Structure Mechanics Behavior and System Safety, jointly built by the province and the ministry. The university also publishes several academic journals, including the Journal of Shijiazhuang Tiedao University (Natural Science Edition) and the Journal of Shijiazhuang Tiedao University (Social Science Edition).
