The Central Institute of Fisheries Technology (ICAR CIFT), established in 1957, is India's sole national center dedicated to research across all aspects of fishing and fish processing. It began operations in Cochin and has since expanded to include research centers in Veraval (Gujarat), Visakhapatnam (AP), and Mumbai (Maharashtra).
