Overview & History

Founded in 1940 as a Teachers' Institute in Przhevalsk (modern-day Karakol), the university was restructured in 1953 into the Przhevalsk Pedagogical Institute. In 1992, it gained full independence and was renamed in honor of Kasym Tynystanov, a pioneering Kyrgyz linguist, poet, and education reformer who helped shape the Kyrgyz alphabet and literary tradition.

Location & Campus

Located at 103 Abdrahmanova Street, Karakol, Issyk-Kul Region, Kyrgyzstan, the university also operates a branch in Cholpon-Ata. It serves as the premier higher education institution in the region.

• Sustainable Tourism Collaboration: IKSU’s Department of Tourism and Environmental Protection partnered with the “Sustainable Development of Winter Tourism in the Kyrgyz Republic” project, receiving training and support for research in sustainable tourism and environmental protection.
• Erasmus+ Faculty Seminar: In November 2022, the university hosted a seminar on vocational education trends and labor market alignment for faculty and staff, reflecting its wider engagement with global education reforms.
