Program Overview
Introduction to the Summer Art and Design Camp
The Summer Art and Design Camp is an immersive program tailored specifically for high school students. It offers a unique opportunity for young artists and designers to explore their creativity, develop new skills, and unleash their potential in a supportive and inspiring environment.
Program Overview
Through hands-on courses, expert guidance from experienced instructors, and exposure to various artistic mediums and design principles, participants will embark on a journey of self-expression and discovery. The camp curriculum covers a wide range of disciplines, including photography, digital art, graphic design, and more, catering to diverse interests.
Fees and Registration
All fees include a full week of courses, meals, a camp T-shirt, supplies, recreational activities, accident insurance, and a healthcare fee. Campers can choose between resident and day camper options:
- Resident Camper Fee: $995, including a shared room in an ECU residence hall.
- Day Camper Fee: $850. Partial payment options are available with a down payment of $275 for resident campers or $250 for day campers. Registration opens on February 2nd, 2026, with a deadline of May 15th, 2026.
Format
The camp offers both day and overnight options, with a structured schedule including morning and afternoon workshops, meals, and evening activities.
Workshops
A variety of workshops are offered, including:
- Papermaking and Book Arts: Students will gain experience making paper and binding books.
- 2D Animation: A hands-on digital animation workshop where students explore how movement can turn drawings into expressive characters.
- Screen-Printing: Students will design and print their own gig posters using screen-printing techniques.
- Reductive Relief Printing: An introduction to linocut printmaking and reductive image making.
- Poster Design: Students will learn about design aesthetics, typography, and Adobe Illustrator to design a show poster.
- Digital Photography: Introduces students to the creative possibilities of the Digital Darkroom.
- Jewelry: Exploration of jewelry and small-scale metalwork.
- Logo & Brand Design: Students will design a set of logos for a real or fictional entity.
- Line Etching and Aqua-Tinting: Traditional line etching and aqua-tinting techniques.
- Film: Campers will create short films, experiencing all aspects of videography.
- Analog Darkroom Photography: Introduction to traditional Black-and-White darkroom photography and alternative processes.
Instructor Bios
Each workshop is led by experienced instructors with backgrounds in their respective fields, including professors from East Carolina University and professional artists and designers.

The camp runs from Sunday, June 14th, 2026, to Friday, June 19th, 2026, with a daily schedule that includes workshops, meals, and evening activities.
