Introduction to the Bachelor of Science in Industrial Technology Program

The Bachelor of Science in Industrial Technology (BSIT) program at East Carolina University has received the John R. Bourne award for outstanding online program from the Online Learning Consortium (OLC). This award recognizes the program's excellence in online learning, access, learning effectiveness, cost effectiveness, student satisfaction, and faculty satisfaction.

Program Overview

The BSIT program is designed to provide working students with the opportunity to advance their careers. A majority of the students in the program are full-time working professionals who are seeking to improve their work situation and overall way of life. The program offers online courses and laboratories, allowing students to complete their degree while continuing to work.

Program Statistics

• The online industrial technology program had 745 declared major students taking courses online.
• 551 students took at least one course online and received a grade.
• The program has seen a 338% and 224% increase in student population since 2005.
• Students from all across the United States are enrolled in the program, including military members deployed in Afghanistan and other parts of the Middle East.

Program Accreditation

The BSIT program is accredited by the Association of Technology, Management and Applied Engineering.

Student Satisfaction

A survey of graduates found that:

• 82.3% of BSIT students reported being satisfied or very satisfied with their instructors.
• 85.4% rated instruction within their major as good or excellent.

Award Recognition

The BSIT program is one of the few undergraduate programs to receive the Bourne Award, which also covers international institutions. The award recognizes the advances in digital learning that result from the ideas and initiatives of individuals, colleges, and universities around the world.
