Program Overview
Environmental Health MSc
The MSc Environmental Health course is designed to provide students with the knowledge and skills necessary for a career as an environmental health practitioner. The course is accredited by the Chartered Institute of Environmental Health (CIEH) and provides a direct route into the profession.
Course Overview
The course covers the five main intervention areas: housing, food safety, occupational health and safety, environmental protection, and public health. Students will develop their understanding of environmental stress factors and their effect on human health and safety, together with the legal and technical frameworks for controlling these risks.
Entry Requirements
Applicants should have at least a second-class honours degree in a cognate subject, such as pure or applied science, or a non-cognate subject supported by evidence of an aptitude for the subject. All applications should be supported by a reference, either academic or professional.
Modules, Teaching, and Learning
The course is delivered through a number of modules, which will help students plan their time and establish a study routine. Independent study is a crucial part of learning at university, and students will be required to undertake many hours of self-directed research and reading, and preparation and writing of assessments.
Fees and Funding
The tuition fee for the year for students entering in 2026/27 is 」10,400 for UK students and 」18,440 for international students. Students may be eligible for a postgraduate loan or other funding opportunities.
Career Prospects
Subject to meeting CIEH requirements, students will be eligible to become a graduate member of the institute and progress towards becoming a registered environmental health practitioner. Career prospects include environmental health practitioner, environmental consultant, and waste/recycling manager.
