Program Overview

About this course

During your Foundation Year, you will undertake modules to enable you to enhance your academic skills and equip you with the tools you’ll need to study with confidence. You’ll carry out a personal project so you can study an area of interest related to your chosen future subject specialisation.

You’ll be introduced to the main perspectives, investigation methods, key theories, research and controversies across the main areas of psychology. You'll study quantitative and qualitative approaches to research and learn about the application of psychology in a professional context in each of the British Psychological Society (BPS) professional areas.

Following successful completion of the Foundation Year, you’ll progress onto the first year of our Forensic Psychology BSc (Hons) degree.

You’ll cover the core theories and themes in psychology, as well as exploring specialist forensic psychology topics which include theories of crime, risk assessment and treatment of offenders, forensic mental health, self-harm and suicide in prison and offending behaviour programmes.

You’ll be taught by practitioners and academics in the field of forensic psychology, who’ll give you personal support throughout your degree. We’re renowned for the quality of our teaching, which draws on our lecturers’ extensive backgrounds in HM Prison Service and other Criminal Justice settings.

In your final year, as well as studying Forensic Psychology in more depth and conducting a Research Project in your chosen area, you’ll also get the chance to specialise in your preferred area of Psychology, with a choice of subjects that includes Health, Clinical and Business Psychology. The Forensic Practitioner module also offers the opportunity to undertake an additional extended period of work-based learning in a relevant Criminal Justice setting.
