Serious and Serial Offenders - Explores the definition, characteristics, offending behavior of serious/serial offenders (mass, spree, serial murders, sexual offenses, arson), investigative/detection methods, key explanatory theories, offender behavior analysis.
'The Deviant Other' - media representations of crime - Analyzes the representation of crime and deviance in various media forms, examining reasons behind these representations.

Latin American Politics - Explores the politics and international relations in Latin America in depth and detail, focusing on assumptions about the region and its place in the world, underlying political ideas/trends shaping current Latin American politics, the internal politics of modern Latin American states and their role within the region, impact due to globalization and the rise of the political and economic importance of other developing regions, reflect on problem-solving in this context.
Migration, Borders and Control - Investigates the relationship between migration, crime, borders, and the criminal justice system, discusses migration management, border control & processing of migrants, examines crime-border relationships (forced migration, migrant smuggling, policing migration & borders, imprisonment of foreign nationals, immigration detention, deportation & human rights), explores effects of migration control on specific groups (gender/nationality/race-ethnicity & class).
Organized Crime - Explores the social, economic, and political issues associated with organized crime, defines and identifies different types (mafia, cartels, syndicates, gangs), provides a brief historical context, reviews theoretical research in the field, explores practical implications of policing organized crime, especially its transnational nature, investigates organized crime activities (including human/drugs/arms trafficking, cybercrime) and factors pushing/pulling organized crime groups across boundaries.
