Digital Forensics and Cyber Security - BSc (Hons)
The Digital Forensics and Cyber Security BSc (Hons) degree at London Metropolitan University is an intensive program that equips students with the skills to stop hackers, analyze risks, and troubleshoot security issues on various devices. Entry Requirements
In addition to the University's standard entry requirements, applicants should have:
- A minimum of grades CCD in three A levels, one of which must be from a relevant subject
- Or a minimum of 88 UCAS points from an equivalent Level 3 qualification
- English Language and Mathematics GCSE at grade C/grade 4 or above Applicants with relevant professional qualifications or extensive professional experience will also be considered on a case-by-case basis.
Accreditation of Prior Learning
Any university-level qualifications or relevant experience gained prior to starting university could count towards the course at London Met.
Assessment
Students will be assessed through essays, individual and group coursework, exams, research projects, and a final dissertation. Regular supportive feedback will be provided throughout the course.
Professional Accreditation
This course is accredited as fully meeting the educational requirement for Chartered IT Professional (CITP) registration. On graduating, students will be eligible to apply for Membership of the British Computer Society (MBCS).
Career Opportunities
Graduates will be prepared to pursue careers in computer forensics and/or IT security, or in the wider IT industry. Potential employers include digital crime investigation companies, government agencies, and the police force, as well as national and international organizations that need protection against digital crime.

Module Details
- Computer Hardware and Software Architectures: Introduces students to the basics of Information Technology, including the design of a small-scale computer system and the safe disposal of equipment.
- Fundamentals of Computing: Provides an introduction to the principles of information processing and an overview of information technologies for digital data processing.
- Introduction to Information Systems: Develops an understanding of the business environment and the role of information management and information systems within business.
- Logic and Problem Solving: Aims to give students an understanding of how problems can be solved systematically and to develop a range of mathematical techniques.
- Programming: An introductory programming module designed to develop interest, ability, and confidence in using a programming language.
- Cloud Computing and the Internet of Things: Enables students to understand IoT and Cloud Computing concepts, building blocks, ecosystems, infrastructure, and applications.
- Computer and Mobile Forensics: Addresses the growing demand for skilled practitioners in Computer forensics, developing the digital forensic analysis knowledge and skills required by the discipline.
- Cyber Security in Computing: Concerned with the fundamentals of security in key areas of computing, including the prevention, detection, correction, and conviction of digital crimes.
- Network Forensics and Incident Response: Covers the entire forensics process from information gathering, legal evidence, and intrusion detection, providing students with both theoretical and practical hands-on experience.
- Professional and Ethical Issues: Focuses on professional, social, ethical issues within the context of social responsibility, covering relevant computer laws underpinning the Computing discipline.
- Risk, Crisis and Security Management: Deals mainly with risk assessment, risk management, and standards and procedures, providing students with an appreciation of the benefits security management provides within an information systems domain.
- Smart Data Discovery: Enables students to understand the fundamental concepts of data science and appreciate key techniques of data science and its applications in a wide range of business contexts.
- Career Development Learning: Enables students to undertake an appropriate short professional activity related to their course, gaining credit for their achievements.
- Digital Investigation and E-Discovery: Provides knowledge of how to detect and prevent digital crimes and cyber incidents at both law enforcement and corporate levels.
- Ethical Hacking: Develops understanding, knowledge, and skills associated with various malicious hacking attacks targeting computer systems and the appropriate safeguards needed to minimize such attacks.
- Network and Cloud Security: Aims to provide students with a critical understanding of security threats against network and cloud computing systems and the security measures designed to protect such systems.
