Program Overview
Introduction to the Translation BA (Hons) Program
The Translation BA (Hons) program at London Metropolitan University is designed to equip students with the skills and knowledge required for a successful career in translation. This vocational degree provides excellent grounding in language, culture mediation, and translation theory and practice.
Program Overview
- The program is available in eight language pathways paired with English.
- Students must be fluent or proficient in both English and their chosen language.
- The course scored 100% for teaching on the course, learning opportunities, assessment and feedback as well as academic support in the NSS 2025.
Entry Requirements
- A minimum grade C in three A levels or minimum grades BBC in at least two A levels in academic subjects (or a minimum of 112 UCAS points from an equivalent Level 3 qualification, eg BTEC National, OCR Diploma or Advanced Diploma)
- GCSE English Language at grade C/grade 4 or above (or equivalent)
- An appropriate Access certificate
- Applicants may be required to take a language proficiency test in their chosen language pathway.

Assessment
Students will be assessed via coursework, class tests, exams, individual and group presentations, a translation portfolio, a translation project and commentary.
Professional Accreditation
The program is accredited by CIOL QUALIFICATIONS (CIOLQ), an internationally recognised professional body that awards exemptions from Unit 1 (Written Translation of a General Text) of the Level 7 Diploma in Translation (DipTrans).
Career Opportunities
Graduates of the Translation BA (Hons) program can pursue career opportunities in translation agencies, national and international governments and non-governmental organisations (NGOs) such as the European Union, the United Nations, banks and multinational corporations as well as language service providers in general.
