Program Overview

The Bachelor of Science ( Biomedical Science) provides the knowledge, skills and attributes required to prepare graduates for the field of biomedical science and medical research. The course covers the theory, practical experience and knowledge necessary for graduates to gain employment in the biomedical professions.

Included in the course are studies in physiology, microbiology, immunology, genetics and biomedical ethics. Graduates can continue on to specialise in one of these laboratory disciplines: medical microbiology, clinical chemistry, transfusion science, haematology, histopathology, cytology, virology, immunology or medicine.

Course Learning Outcomes

  • Apply broad discipline knowledge to a range of theoretical and practical biomedical situations.
  • Communicate disciplinary knowledge and values in professional and public contexts.
  • Demonstrate a global outlook with respect for cultural diversity, including Indigenous cultural competence.
