Program Overview

The Zero Carbon Buildings (Level 6) course from UWE Bristol provides comprehensive training in energy management, data analysis, and sustainable energy technologies. Through a blend of online lectures, tutorials, and site visits, students develop skills for roles in retrofit coordination, energy management, and commercial building operations. • Management in the Energy Industry: energy supply industry structure, use regulations, certification schemes, incentive schemes, energy in facility management, energy markets, tariffs.
• Data Gathering and Analysis: data gathering techniques, energy audits, monitoring and instrumentation, metering and sub-metering, EBMS systems, surveying, CUSUM analysis, Sankey diagrams, benchmarking.
• Performance Evaluation: technical and financial analysis of mechanical, control, and electrical systems; encouraging energy efficient behavior change; soft landings.
• Human factors in building performance: user movement, visual effects, predicting user behavior, sensors, smart technologies.
• Facilitating sustainable use of energy technologies: semantic design to encourage low energy use, interface with HVAC controls, energy-use feedback, user education.
