Science Communication: Connecting People, Creating Events
is a 15-credit, Level 7 (Masters level) module offered by the University of the West of England (UWE Bristol). The course is designed to support individuals in developing their knowledge and skills in science communication and public engagement with research.

- Apply current theory in science communication and engagement.
- Articulate specific and appropriate objectives for engagement activities.

- Critically analyze their own and others' practice.
Description:
This course is taught as an accredited module and equips participants with a contemporary understanding of current theory and practice in science communication and public engagement with research. Participants will develop an awareness of key principles of relevance and will engage in activities that allow them to explore a range of science communication practices. They will also develop skills in self-directed learning which will facilitate their studies.
Other:
The course is delivered online over 10 weeks, including two private study weeks. The program utilizes narrated presentations, self-directed learning activities, problem-based learning, discussion forums, wikis, asynchronous feedback opportunities, and/or live interactive seminars. Participants are encouraged to share their professional and personal experiences of science communication for mutual benefit and learning.

Assessment:
Assessment comprises two elements:
- A 500-word summary of peer feedback
- A 1500-word grant application The grant application will be modeled on a real-world science communication tender or grant. The 500-word summary of peer feedback involves providing a reflective summary of the communication and feedback obtained throughout the module, including contributions to discussion forums, wikis, and/or live interactive seminars.

The course is delivered online via narrated presentations, self-directed learning activities, problem-based learning, discussion forums, wikis, asynchronous feedback opportunities, and/or live interactive seminars. Participants are encouraged to engage in independent reading and reflexive practice to develop advanced knowledge in specific aspects of the course content.
