About the Course
Successful completion of this programme requires learners to successfully pass the module, Independent and/or Supplementary Prescribing, and will award successful candidates 40 Credit Accumulation and Transfer Scheme (CATS) points. The programme is offered at level 7 (LM - Masters Level) for Pharmacists and Paramedics, and at either level 7 (LM) or level 6 (L3 - Degree Level) for Nurses, midwives, physiotherapists, dietitians, radiographers, and chiropodists.
Entry Requirements
You must fulfil current entry requirements set by your regulatory body in relation to prescribing practice. The requirements have been incorporated into the Programme Application Form (PAF), and it is essential to read the PAF carefully and answer all questions.

This module can contribute towards various postgraduate awards, including the PGCert Health and Social Care, MSc Clinical Practice, and the Professional Development Awards.
How to Apply
To apply, you will need to arrange the completion of the Programme Application Form (PAF) and ensure it is scanned and saved on your device before applying online. The PAF must be completed by yourself, your Designated Prescribing Supervisor (DPS), your Designated Prescribing Practitioner (DPP), and your Non-Medical Prescribing Lead before your online application is submitted.

The programme combines the learning outcomes set by the NMC, HCPC, and GPhC, ensuring learners have the necessary skills and knowledge to practice as safe, competent, and autonomous prescribers.
Learning and Teaching
The programme offers opportunities for professions to learn with and from each other, both in academic and practice settings. Each professional group is supported to develop different skills and knowledge to meet their profession-specific needs.
Study Time
The programme comprises 26 days of learning, including 14 online contact days and 12 directed learning days. Learners also undertake 90 hours of supervised learning in practice and approximately 400 hours of private study.
Assessment
The assessment strategy complies with regulatory requirements for independent prescribing. The individual components of the assessment are non-negotiable and regularly updated to reflect current changes in legislation.
